You can access your CLUE home directory through two different means, windows file sharing and SFTP/SCP. When you connect you will see the contents of your U: drive. To see the contents of your windows desktop, or My Documents, browse to the .ntprofile folder.
NOTE: As of November 18, 2003, off campus students must first connect to the University VPN before this will work. See http://www.ait.iastate.edu/pubs/wng334/.
You can access your CLUE home directory from any windows machine using the following path:
\\home.eng.iastate.edu\username
At the password prompt, enter ENGR\username and your CLUE password.
'Username' is your CLUE username. You must not be behind a firewall for this to work. If you are behind a firewall, you will need to download an SFTP client for windows and use the instructions below.
You can also use WinSCP (found in our "Downloads" section) to access your home directory in an FTP-like manner. Fill in "telnet.eng.iastate.edu" as the host name and your CLUE username and password in the appropriate fields. Click the "Login" button. A window may pop up asking you to add the host key to the cache. It is ok to click "Yes" here. You can move files back and forth by dragging them or by clicking the various function buttons on the bottom of the screen. You do not need to connect to the ISU VPN to use WinSCP.
You can use the SFTP/SCP protocols to transfer files. Eg. from a UNIX prompt you can type:
scp username@telnet.eng.iastate.edu:/home/username/myfile.txt .
To copy myfile.txt to your current working directory.
You can also use the sftp command, eg. sftp telnet.eng.iastate.edu for an FTP like interface.
You are not limited to telnet.eng.iastate.edu. Any CLUE machine that accepts SSH connections can be used.
The CLUE Network is a joint project among various departments in the College of Engineering. Email CLUE@iastate.edu for more information.
